Cleome spinosa ‘Pink Queen’, also known as Pink Spider Flower, is a captivating annual plant celebrated for its large, airy, and continuously blooming flower heads. Originating from South America, this specific cultivar produces vibrant, clear pink flowers with the characteristic long, delicate stamens that give the plant its “spider-like” common name. These showy blooms are held atop tall, sturdy stems with aromatic, palmate green leaves, creating an elegant vertical accent and adding a splash of lively color to garden beds and containers from summer through fall.

Cultivation and Care:

  • Sunlight: Thrives in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily) for the best flowering display. While it can tolerate some afternoon shade in very hot climates, too much shade can lead to leggy growth and fewer blooms.
  • Soil: Adapts well to average to well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of soil pH. It’s generally unfussy about soil quality but prefers a prepared bed with good drainage.
  • Watering: Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry spells or when the plant is establishing. Once established, it becomes quite drought-tolerant.
  • Propagation: Easily grown from seeds, which can be sown directly outdoors after the last frost, or started indoors 6-8 weeks prior. It often self-seeds readily in favorable conditions, providing new plants year after year.

Plants nature is outdoor, full sun, low to average watering, attracts pollinators.
